La peste y la pobreza han obligado a dos hermanos, Manu y Bento a dejar Portugal en busca de la promesa que el nuevo mundo ofrece. En una aldea en Africa, una familia es capturada por traficantes de esclavos con rumbo a América. Brasil será el lugar en donde las vidas de estos personajes se entrelazan junto con las de los nativos; y la cultura de estos tres continentes comienza a fusionarse.
 
The plague and poverty have forced two brothers, Manu and Bento to leave Portugal in search of the promise that the new world offers. In a village in Africa, a family is captured by slave traders bound for America. Brazil will be the place where the lives of these characters are intertwined with those of the natives; and the culture of these three continents begins to merge.
