La noche en que nace Ronia, el castillo de su familia es partido en dos por un rayo. Ella es la hija de Mattis, el jefe de los bandoleros. Luego de esa tormenta, la banda rival de los Borka ocupa una mitad del castillo. Cuando Ronia conoce a Birk, el hijo del capitán enemigo, entablan amistad contra la voluntad de sus familias. Ronia lucha por defender su amistad. Esta historia invita a cambiar la forma en que se percibe a la infancia; y a tomar conciencia del valor y respeto al que los niños tienen derecho.
 
The night Ronia is born, her family's castle is split in two by lightning. She is the daughter of Mattis, the head of the bandits. After that storm, the rival band of the Borka occupies one half of the castle. When Ronia meets Birk, the enemy captain's son, they become friends against their families' will. This story invites us to change the way childhood is perceived; and to become aware of the value and respect to which children are entitled.
